After the success of coming runners up in the County finals the U11 girls travelled to Redbridge for the re-scheduled regional finals.
The girls started off playing against the runners up of Essex; Bancroft School. After a very even game and some fantastic defending it came down to the last short corner, which unfortunately weconceded to lose out 1-0. The girls then went straight on again against Greshams, who were a very strong side and despite a determined effort the score line finished 4-0.
After a break we came up against the Cambridgeshire Champions St John’s College, where again we had chances to score but were unable to convert, so again going down 1-0. After that, the next opponents were the Bedford champions; Bedford School. Here our girls were able to fight out a well-deserved point again after some fantastic defensive work, the result was a 0-0 finish. Our last group game was against the Kent winners Junior Kings who were also a very strong side and despite battling hard the girls lost 1-0.
After the group stages we played triangular tournament against Bedford Modern and Bedford School, which were both very entertaining games. Here our girls again showed great grit and determination and had some good opportunities to win both games, which both ended up 0-0.
There was a fantastic progression in the girls’ play as the day went on, with them increasing in confidence and continuing to work hard throughout.
A big thanks to the supporting parents for making the long trip down, your support was much appreciated.
